QUICK TIPS: The trolley system should not be spaced more than 14.5 feet from pulley to pulley. Installation requires careful drilling of holes in your boat, so ensure you have the correct locations and access before proceeding. Review the contents of the kit and read the instructions thoroughly before starting the installation on your kayak. While these are basic guidelines to help you understand the kit, keep in mind that all kayaks may have slight variations, allowing for customization in your installation process.
We provide an assortment of fasteners for your convenience. We recommend using bolts with washers and nuts if you can access the rear of the area where you are fitting the trolley system. If not, trifold rivets can be used. Self-tapping screws can also be effective when a rivet gun is unavailable and there is no inside access. Remember to use waterproof silicone to seal any holes you drill during installation.
PULLEYS INSTRUCTIONS: The pulley is secured to the kayak using a Pad Eye and Snap Hook. The ideal position for the pulleys is above the waterline of the kayak, approximately 9-12 inches from both the bow and stern. This positioning allows the "pole-setting ring" to move along the entire length of the boat.
First, attach the pad eyes at each end of the kayak, ensuring they are as close to the back as possible, approximately 7-10 inches from both the bow and stern. Once the mounting spots are marked, use bolts, washers, and Nyloc nuts on the inside of the hull for installation. If inside access is not available, rivets can be used. After attaching the pad eyes, use the Stainless Steel Karabiner to connect the pulley to the pad eyes.
Use additional pad eyes as a guide for the trolley line, mounting them similarly to the pulley installation. The number of pad eyes used depends on the trolley's length and desired support for the line. We recommend installing a pad eye 1/3 of the way from the rear and front of the kayak. Angle the bottom of the pad eyes toward the center line of the boat to prevent rope sagging. Seal all holes with silicone for waterproofing.
TROLLEY LINE INSTALLATION: Feed the line through the pulley at the bow, across and through the pad eyes, and down through the other pulley at the stern. Tie the two cord ends to the Pole Setting Ring using "Barrel" or "Clinch" knots. Adjust the cord length for optimal tension and trim any excess cord.
OPTIONAL BUNGEE INSTALLATION: The Anchor Trolley kit includes a bungee cord that helps absorb kayak movement and keeps the anchor trolley line taut. This bungee cord can be looped through the bow pad eye and secured with a plastic bead. The anchor trolley system can still be used effectively without the bungee cord.
ZIG ZAG CLEAT INSTALLATION: The Zig-Zag cleat locks the anchor's position on the trolley system and secures the trolley line in place for easy access. Place the cleat within reach of your paddling position, ideally slightly behind the seat. Mark the mounting holes, use appropriate drill bits for installation, and apply waterproof silicone before attaching the cleat.
Overall, the kayak anchor trolley system kit provides a convenient and durable solution for adjusting your vessel's position while maintaining stability and safety. It includes various components such as paracord, rope cleat, anchor ring, pulleys, snap hooks, elastic rings, pad eyes, rivets, bolts, and screws, allowing for versatile installation on either side of the kayak.
